The Phalaenopsis Liodoro is a beloved hybrid that has been receiving high praise from orchid enthusiasts for years. Not only because of its enchanting colors, but especially because of its strikingly sweet fragrance – a rarity within the Phalaenopsis-genus.
This cross between Phalaenopsis violacea and Phalaenopsis amboinensis was originally selected for its fragrance profile and prolonged flowering. Both parent plants are from Southeast Asia, where they grow in warm, humid conditions with filtered light.
The Liodoro bears sturdy, leathery leaves and produces multiple flower branches that branch as the plant ages. The flowers are yellow-green with soft, purplish-pink markings in the center. Their waxy texture ensures a long shelf life. What makes this plant truly special is its delicious citrus-vanilla fragrance that is especially noticeable during the day.
The plant is known for its continuous-flowering ability: with proper care, it blooms several times a year, often for months at a time. Moreover, it is a relatively easy orchid to care for and thus very suitable for the beginning orchid hobbyist.
Bright, indirect light is ideal. Avoid direct sunlight, especially in summer.
A warm environment between 20 and 28C during the day, and not below 18C at night.
Use an airy bark-based orchid substrate. A transparent pot helps keep an eye on root health.
Preferably around 60-70%. Regular misting or using a humidifier helps, especially in winter.
Give demineralized water or clean rainwater weekly, preferably in the morning. Allow the substrate to dry slightly between waterings. Avoid wet feet.
Feed once every two weeks during the growing period with special orchid nutrition at half concentration.
The Phalaenopsis Liodoro can bloom year-round, with peak blooms in spring and fall. Feel free to leave old flowering branches: they can sprout again.
