Origin

This remarkable miniature orchid is native to Thailand and Laos. The Dendrobium lamyaiae gets large, orange flowers relative to its size.

Characteristics

The large orange flowers of the Dendrobium lamyaiae, with the striking color and the red-orange stripes on the yellow curled lip, are characteristic of this species and make this a very special eye-catcher. The flowers grow upside down and downward. Usually, this compact orchid gets between 2 and 4 flowers per flower stem. The flowers can bloom for a long time with proper care.

In the fall, this orchid will drop its leaves. Usually this orchid blooms in late summer or early fall. In spring, the Dendrobium lamyaiae will regrow new leaves.

Care for

This particular orchid should be misted regularly and dried only slightly between waterings. This orchid likes a warm climate of about 23-25 degrees Celsius during the day and good air movement (no drafts). They like to grow in the light in high humidity, making them nice terrarium plants. In addition, moderate to high indirect light is desirable for good growth.
