Blc. Durigan Dracco is a standout choice among Brassolaeliocattleya hybrids. This cultivar combines a warm beige-gold base with a vibrant pinkish-red tinge and dense speckling in crimson to wine red. The full, fuchsia-pink lip with a delicate fringe steals the show. A plant that is both visually dramatic and botanically appealing.
This Durigan hybrid originated in Brazil, from the Durigan Orchids nursery, and is believed to be based on the cross Waianae Leopard Cattleya Corcovado. Lots of bright, indirect light. An east-facing window with some filter is ideal. Enough light stimulates strong color development as well as bud formation.
18-28 C during the day. Light nighttime cooling is tolerated, but below 14 C risk of growth stagnation.
An airy mix of medium orchid bark (e.g. coco chips, charcoal) supports healthier root environment and stability.
50-70% humidity. Good ventilation prevents fungal hazards in warmer climates.
During active growth feed weekly or biweekly (- strength). When dormant in winter switch back to once a month.
Allow substrate to dry thoroughly between waterings. Give in the morning, preferably with demineralized water. Avoid wet feet or tropical setbacks with the pseudobulbs.
Typically blooms 1-2 times a year. Flowers remain beautiful for 2-3 weeks and may spread fragrance – all depending on growing seasons and light conditions.
