Anthurium veitchii, affectionately known as the King Anthurium, is one of the most dramatic foliage plants you can grow indoors. Each elongated, strap-shaped leaf emerges coppery and unfurls into a deeply ribbed, pendulous blade that can reach well over a metre in mature specimens. The corrugated texture and glossy deep green colour create unmistakable sculptural presence, earning this aroid a devoted following among collectors. Best displayed somewhere its leaves can hang freely, such as a plant shelf, stand, or bright corner.
Origins
Anthurium veitchii is endemic to the cloud forests of Colombia, where it grows as an epiphyte on tree trunks and branches in consistently humid, well-ventilated conditions with bright, filtered light.
Soil and Substrate
As an epiphyte, Anthurium veitchii needs a chunky, airy substrate. Our Premium Anthurium Potting Mix works beautifully as the blend of bark, perlite, coco chips, and charcoal keeps roots oxygenated and prevents the soggy conditions that cause rot, while still holding enough moisture to support lush new growth.
