Zephyranthes brachyandra SEEDS

Zephyranthes brachyandra seeds grow into the short-stamened rain lily a bulbous geophyte native to the subtropical biome of eastern Bolivia, west-central Brazil and north-western Argentina. Described by Baker (John Gilbert Baker, 18341920, Kew) and transferred to Zephyranthes by Backer. The epithet brachyandra means ‘short-stamened’ (Greek brachys = short + aner/andros = male/stamen), referring to the conspicuously short stamens relative to the perianth. Flowering is triggered by summer rainfall the classic rain lily response. The genus Zephyranthes derives its name from the Greek zephyros (west wind) + anthos (flower) = ‘flower of the west wind’, named by Herbert (1821). Family Amaryllidaceae.
