A medium-sized deciduous shrub, fuchsia has small, red tubular blooms that appear in the summer months along with dark green foliage. They need a protected location, especially from frost or strong winds, and can be fenced or planted in pots. Each Spring, prune severely to keep them bushy and compact. End-of-autumn mulching will help plants survive the winter. Feed in the spring with blood and bone or a liquid fertiliser.
