Opuntia, commonly known as the Prickly Pear, is a resilient genus of plants native to the southwestern US and Mexico. Easily identified by flat, paddle-like segments covered in both traditional spines and barbed bristles called glochids.
The monocantha variety, aka Drooping Prickly Pear, Cochineal Prickly Pear, or Barbary Fig, is known for having less spines. It also has a more twisted/deformed growth style, each highly unique.
