Made famous by Rudolph Haas, a Californian avocado grower experimenting with Fuerte avocado trees in his backyard, he came across the seed of an unknown avocado variety (previously grown in southern Mexico, Central America and the West Indies) and planted this to trial it as a rootstock. Most grafts took except one, and when this tree fruited, Haas knew he had discovered something special. The rich buttery texture, due to the high oil content in the fruit, has seen Haas grow to become the most popular avocado variety in the world. Grafted on Reed rootstock.
