Ascocentrum ampullaceum is native to the mountainous regions of India, Bhutan, Nepal, Myanmar and Thailand. The ‘Alba’ form is an extremely rare, natural variety where the usual bright pink color is absent and has given way to pure white flowers.
This miniature orchid forms a compact rosette of sturdy, leathery leaves. Use demineralized water or clean rainwater at room temperature. Keep the substrate slightly moist during the growing season, but allow it to dry out slightly between waterings. In winter, the plant may be slightly drier.
Flowering usually occurs in the spring. A shorter, cooler dormant period in winter may encourage flowering. If the plant feels well, it may bloom profusely each year.
