Angraecum didieri is an elegant miniature orchid from the forests of Madagascar. Despite its modest size, this species has long been beloved among orchid collectors for its pure white, star-shaped flowers with a long spur and its subtle, sweet fragrance in the evening hours. It grows compactly, slowly and forms a beautiful rosette of gray-green leaves – ideal for growing on mount or in a pot in a cool greenhouse or terrarium.
This species is endemic to Madagascar, where it grows on tree trunks in cool, moist mountain forests between 800 and 1,500 meters above sea level. Conditions there are stable, with cool nights, high humidity and filtered light. Like other Madagascan Angraecums, didieri forms its own niche within the ecosystem, and is valued in culture for its relatively easy flowering and compact form.
Angraecum didieri grows as a monopodial miniature with a short trunk and thick, leathery leaves that are arranged in a roof-like fashion. The leaves are gray-green to blue-green and firm in texture.
The inflorescence appears from the leaf axils and usually bears one flower at a time. The flowers are pure white, waxy and star-shaped, with a characteristically long, straight spur. They often open in late spring to summer and emit a soft scent in the evening, indicating pollination by moths in the wild.
Bright, indirect light. No direct sunlight. Ideal for a bright windowsill with morning sun or under grow lights. Sufficient light is essential for flowering.

Mounting on cork or tree bark with a thin layer of sphagnum around the roots is ideal. In pot: use fine bark with a little sphagnum and tree fern fiber. Always airy and well draining.

During the growing season (spring to fall) fertilize lightly every 2-3 weeks with diluted orchid food. In winter only occasionally, when growth is visible.
Use only demineralized water or rainwater. For pot culture, allow substrate to dry briefly between waterings. If mounted, spray lightly daily during the growing season, slow down in winter.
Flowers usually once a year, often between May and July. The flower remains good for 1 to 2 weeks. After flowering, the stem is allowed to dry completely before removal.
