This species is native to Southeast Asia, where it grows in the humus-rich soil of moist, shady tropical forests. There it develops as a terrestrial orchid under consistently warm and wet conditions. In culture, the variegate form is rare and loved by collectors of jewel orchids because of its unique leaf patterns and multi-colored tissue.
The leaves are oval to slightly oblong in shape and velvety in texture. Dark green forms the basic color, in which a network of silvery veins sparkles like gold dust under the light. Variegation appears as pale yellow or cream-colored margins or stripes, which are slightly different on each plant.
The plant stays low and grows with short internodes, giving it a compact, dense appearance. Flowering is modest and consists of small, whitish flowers on an ascending stem – decorative, but certainly not the main attraction.
Bright, indirect light or partial shade. Avoid direct sunlight, which can damage delicate leaves. Ideal for growing under grow lights or in a shaded side of a plant stand.

Lightly fertilize during active growth (spring to fall) with a dilute foliar plant food ( strength). In winter only occasionally during visible growth.

Flowering appears in the cooler months on an erect stem. The small, dainty flowers are white to beige, and decorative – but the foliage remains the main accent.
