The Aerangis rhodosticta is a striking species from tropical Africa loved for its graceful blooms and contrasting color. Unlike many other Aerangis species, the flowers are not completely white but have a characteristic reddish-pink lip that contrasts elegantly with the translucent white petals. A plant with subtle flair, ideal for the enthusiast looking for sophistication with a splash of color.
This species grows as an epiphyte in lowland and mountain rain forests of Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania, among others. It occurs at altitudes between 1000 and 2000 meters, where it is moist, warm and shady. In its natural habitat, Aerangis rhodosticta flowers at the beginning of the rainy season, often with remarkably many flowers per cluster.
The plant forms a neat, compact rosette of fairly narrow, leathery leaves with a slightly wavy margin. The flowering stalk can reach 20 to 30 cm in length and often bears an impressive cluster of 10 to 25 flowers. The flowers are star-shaped, milky white and have an upright spur. The real eye-catcher is the lip: small, oval and bright red to pinkish-red in color.
The fragrance is soft and slightly sweet, especially in the evening. The inflorescence makes this species a popular choice among collectors as well as an ideal introduction to the genus Aerangis.

Mounting on cork or tree bark with a little sphagnum is good, provided it is watered regularly. In pot, a fine mix of bark and moss is recommended – airy but moisture retaining.
65-85%. Provide a stable humid microclimate with adequate air movement to prevent mold.
During active growth (spring and summer) feed weekly with highly diluted orchid fertilizer. In winter only sporadically.
Use only demineralized water or rainwater. Keep the substrate slightly moist, but allow it to dry briefly between waterings. When mounted: mist daily.
Flowering usually occurs in late summer or early fall. Flowers last 2 to 3 weeks. With proper care, annual flowering is possible, sometimes even twice a year. Remove the flower stem only after it has completely dried out.
