Vitex cooperi seeds grow into a shrub or tree native to the tropical biome of Central America, not Australia as sometimes described. Named by the American botanist Paul Carpenter Standley (18841963), who specialised in the flora of Central America and Mexico, this Vitex belongs to the Central American element of the genus. It develops the aromatic leaves and tubular flower clusters characteristic of Vitex species in the seasonally dry tropical forests and woodland edges of its Central American habitat.
