This diminutive Elm is used in traditional Japanese Bonsai and goes by a mish mash of names although the one provided to my father we use until something better appears … It makes an outstanding pot or rockery specimen and appears to have been bonsaied by a Master simply by getting older … The deep fissured bark and miniature branching and diminutive leaves appear to have been tortured by decades of Bonsai , but it is simply its habit … Somewhat intriguing in plant circles , Pere David makes reference to it but it is written about surprisingly little … One of the most intriguing and beautiful dwarf cultivars ever assigned to gardening , a personal favourite … Family: Ulmaceae….
