Nothofagus glauca

(Chilean Southern Beech)

Nothofagus glauca is a handsome, hardy very rare deciduous to semi-evergreen tree originating from Chile, well-suited to cooler regions of Australia. It forms a rounded crown with attractive glossy green, serrated leaves that turn rich shades of orange and red in autumn. Growing 1020 m tall and 810 m wide, it makes an excellent shade or feature tree for large gardens and parks. Prefers moist, well-drained, acidic to neutral soils and benefits from protection from hot, dry winds. Tolerates light frost and performs best in temperate climates with reliable rainfall.
