This miniature orchid is native to Southeast Asia and grows mainly in Thailand and Vietnam. There it grows at altitudes between 550 and 600 meters.
The Schoenorchis seidenfadenii is a miniature orchid that, like the popular Schoenorchis fragrans, can produce a wonderfully sweet fragrance when flowering. This fragrant orchid grows compactly with dark green leaves and develops pale pink with white flowers. The flower is somewhat lighter in color than that of the Schoenorchis fragrans.
This small orchid grows like a fan with thick, fleshy leaves. The flowers will not grow larger than 1 cm across at mature stage.
Caution! Although this product is large and old according to the description, please note that it is a miniature orchid! This means that it is still relatively in size a small orchid when looking at the average size of for example an average Phalaenopsis. So it cannot be compared to that. Still, it is a large size for this particular species and this little plant has been around for years. It will be able to bloom profusely with several clusters of fragrant flowers.
Although this orchid likes lots of indirect sunlight, high humidity and a warm temperature (at least 20 degrees Celsius, but preferably around 25 degrees), this orchid is relatively easy to care for. For lovers of orchids and terrariums or paludariums, this is a very desirable plant with many qualities. In the living room, this orchid is a bit more difficult to care for due to the need for high humidity and a higher temperature. A lower night temperature of around 20 degrees can stimulate the orchid in growth and flowering. According to some, this species is easier than (and thus a stepping stone to) the Shoe Orchid fragrans.
The best way to grow this plant is on a block in the air. They don’t like being in a pot very much. Cork or a special orchid block with perhaps a little sphagnum moss can provide a perfect base for this orchid to grow on.
