Cultivation method:

Sow seeds indoors 6 weeks before the last frost , then transplant to open ground in late spring , once the soil has warmed up. Plant 6-12 mm (1/4-1/2″) deep , spacing plants 45-60 cm (18-24″) apart and rows 90-120 cm (36-48″) apart . Germination takes 15-20 days at an optimum temperature of 21C (70F). This variety prefers full sun and well-drained soil , with moderate watering to encourage abundant production.

Harvest and uses:

The fruits reach 5 cm (2 inches) in diameter and are ready to harvest when their papillose husks turn yellow and begin to split . Unlike green tomatillos, their skin and flesh remain intensely purple , making them as decorative as they are delicious. • 500g ‘Deep Purple’ tomatillos , washed and halved
• 1 jalapeo or serrano pepper (adjust according to your heat tolerance)
• 1/2 red onion , cut into pieces
• 1 clove of garlic
• 1 tbsp olive oil
• 1/2 cup fresh cilantro
• Juice of 1/2 lime
• Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation :

1. Preheat the oven to 400F (200C) . Arrange the tomatillos, onion, garlic and chili pepper on a baking sheet and drizzle with olive oil.
